Hospital system turns to TCRS during COVID Crisis

Laboratory builds accelerated schedule drives the need for temporary heating and cooling

As the world continues its battle against Covid-19, we’ve seen our first major trial in America’s laboratory infrastructure requiring facilities to make massive changes to diagnose, triage, and prevent airborne transmission of the virus. Increased demand and overwhelmed hospitals required fast-acting COVID response efforts by healthcare organizations across the globe.  In Ohio, a Dayton-area Hospital system was among those looking to set up an operational lab on an accelerated timeline and faced several climate-related challenges.

It’s no secret that temperature control and air circulation are critical components in ensuring these facilities are safe and effective. Two factors driving their temperature control challenges were Ohio’s drastic swings in outside temperatures between seasons, and the timing it would take engineers to implement a permanent HVAC solution.

Since this project (beginning in early spring 2020) was expected to continue through the summer and into fall, this customer required a temporary solution that would not only heat the outside air in the colder weather but also cool the outside air during hotter temperatures. TCRS worked with their engineering firm to design a ductwork configuration that would allow our rental equipment to drive outside air through our temperature control solution and return optimal 50°F-55°F air into the lab at all times. Since both heating and cooling solutions were necessary to keep the lab at temp through the seasons, TCRS provided them with a 30-ton air conditioner and 150 KW SCR controlled heater attachment allowing the lab to operate seamlessly through the seasons without the need to swap out equipment.

Our ability to provide an engineered solution upfront and quickly will allow the lab to remain open regardless of the season, ensuring our customers can continue to serve the community and turn the tide in the fight against COVID-19.
